Introduction to supporting children to learn

This course will show you how you can support children to learn.

You may be looking to support children in your family with their homework or you're interested in working in schools as a teaching assistant.

You'll begin to explore the best ways to provide support and encourage them to learn.

Teaching assistants

These courses will help you gain the skills and knowledge you need to train as a teaching assistant.

The units in the qualifications are designed to support the needs of children learning in schools.

We have courses from introductory level to level 3. Perfect if you're exploring a new career or would like to develop your current knowledge.

These include short introductory courses such as:

  • 'introduction to supporting children to learn'
  • 'introduction to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults'.

For more advanced levels there is also 'supporting teaching and learning in schools'.

Early Years Education

The Level 2 Early Years Practitioner qualification provides learners with the skills and knowledge needed to work with babies and children under the age of 5 in childcare settings such as nurseries and childminding.

You must be working in a paid or unpaid job with children under the age of 5 years old in a childcare setting to do this course.

Our Introduction to dementia awareness course is designed to suit those with an interest in dementia as well as people who are seeking work in the adult care industry.

Learners will explore concepts including:

  • factors that affect communication
  • the person-centred approach to caring
  • ways of working to meet the diverse needs of individuals.

Social care courses provide a route into many different job roles in a diverse sector.

Our 'Level 1 award in caring for children' and 'Level 1 award in preparing to work in adult social care' courses give you an opportunity to find out more about the sector and what type of role and area of adult social care you might like to work in.

Community interpreting

We live in a diverse community and some members struggle to communicate in English. This may mean they are isolated or have difficulty in getting services.

If you speak another language, you could become an interpreter.

During our Level 1 community interpreting, learners will develop the skills required to help others with limited spoken English in everyday situations including:

  • housing
  • healthcare
  • public services.

Our courses are aimed at learners who have an interest in the role of a community interpreter and have high levels of English and another language.

British Sign Language

Learn a new skill and make new friends in this fun and engaging set of courses.

You will play games and sing songs as well as develop an understanding of the history behind some signs.

Our introduction to deaf awareness and British Sign Language will enable you to develop the skills to use basic British Sign Language skills to communicate.

Our using British Sign Language to hold simple conversations course will improve your communication skills and deaf awareness.

Bookkeeping and accounts

If giving a speech at a big event, such as a wedding or conference, fills you with dread, then our introduction to public speaking one day course could be exactly what you need.

It's designed to assist you in engaging your audience, use strategies to address your nerves and develop skills in verbal and non-verbal communication to captivate and influence your audience.

Mental health awareness

The aim of this course is to develop awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties.

During our Level 1 award in mental health awareness you'll explore some of the myths and misconceptions frequently linked to mental health issues. You'll develop your knowledge of the rights of people with mental health issues and where appropriate support can be sought.

To further develop your skills, our Level 3 certificate in understanding mental health will increase your knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental wellbeing.

It focuses on the subject of mental health and wellbeing to support different occupational areas.

Successful completion of the required units will allow you to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of mental health. It will also support progression into relevant employment within the health and social care sector.

Counselling

If you want to become a counsellor, we have a wide range of qualifications to support your journey.

Our introduction to counselling and introduction to skills for counselling can help lay the foundations to progress to a Level 1 award in mentoring.

Level 2 courses include award in effective listening skills and certificate in counselling skills form the foundations of professional counselling practice, as well as providing the essential listening and communication skills used by helping professionals.

The Level 2 qualification is essential for anyone wanting to take the certificate in counselling or life coaching at Level 3.

These CPCAB qualifications are highly regarded in the industry. All learners must complete pre-course assessments prior to enrolment.

Life coaching

The aim of life coaching is to help clients to understand what they want, the skills they need and how they can develop.

As a life coach, you will support people in making these initial steps, setting them on their way to a more fulfilling working life.

Following on from the skills developed from our counselling courses, or if you have already developed those skills, start with our Level 3 certificate in life coaching for those who would like to take the first step in training to be an independent life coach and to use life coaching skills and techniques in a variety of settings and roles.

Further development opportunities are available by studying our Level 4 diploma in life coaching. This course is designed to equip learners to work as self-employed life coaches in independent practices.
