Supported learning

We are proud to offer learners with learning difficulties and disabilities our supported learning programme, providing a range of creative and practical subjects.

Our supported learning courses can help you to gain new skills at your own pace that you can use in everyday life.

We aim to empower our learners, with appropriate challenge and stimulation to build confidence and contribute to them leading fuller lives. This includes more engagement in the community and helping independence.

What we offer

Our supported learning programme offers a range of subjects for people with learning difficulties or disabilities. We offer supportive environments with expert tutors. Every course also has a group learning support assistant. Our wider team will also support our learners.

We invite all new and returning learners to an initial assessment where the course leader will find out what you want to achieve and assist you to enrol onto the right course for you.

Before you enrol on a supported learning course you will be asked to attend an initial assessment. This will help the course tutor plan your learning programme based on your individual needs.

Supported learning courses


Arts and crafts

We offer two different levels of Supported Learning arts and crafts courses. A 10-week staged course exploring specific skills in a tutor led project, for those needing more support. Courses will run 3 times across the year and learners can join classes at any time after initial assessment.

We also offer a longer, 30-week Art and Enterprise course aimed at learners wanting to stretch and extend their art skills towards making and selling items as a group.

Introduction to cooking skills

Our Cooking skills - healthy eating - Supported Learning course is aimed at learners wishing to develop their cooking skills alongside their independence in the kitchen. We will be looking at healthy living, balanced meals, kitchen hygiene and food safety. The course includes entry maths skills such as measuring, weighing, counting, shape and number. Courses run for 24 sessions across the year.

Needlecraft

Our 10-week, staged Needlecrafts courses, will explore specific hand sewing skills, in a tutor led project, for those needing more support. Courses will run 3 times across the year and learners can join classes at any time after initial assessment.

Planting and growing

Our 10-week, staged Nature and Crafts courses, will explore a specific wildlife and craft related theme, in a tutor led project, for those needing more support. Courses will run 3 times across the year and learners can join classes at any time after initial assessment..

Pottery

Crafts with clay will combine drawing, design, craft and working with clay on a range of tutor led projects. Learners will have opportunity to develop their own outcomes across the projects, but CLAY WILL NOT BE USED EVERY WEEK, and some projects may not have a clay-based outcome. This is not a pottery course; it is crafts that may incorporate the use of clay.

Pottery Enterprise is a 30-week course aimed at those with learning difficulties and disabilities that require a more independent and challenging Supported Learning environment aimed at learners wanting to stretch and extend their creative skills towards making and selling items as a group. CLAY WILL NOT BE USED EVERY WEEK.

Gain the freedom to potentially live independently. Learn how to be independent through discussing practical situations and by using the community to gain experience and information.

Growing my maths

Want to improve your maths skills whilst having fun in a friendly small group?

Then this is the course for you. Maths courses are designed for learners who need to cover the basics in maths.

Discovering English through history

Our aim is to introduce you to different periods in history.

We will be exploring the different ways in which people lived during those times and concentrating on some well-known figures who were around at that time and their achievements.
